MA coursework

In stage one of this project, I explore the contradictory nature of the material world from which we all benefit. Inspired by the writing of Jason Hickel (The Divide), I came to realise the extent to which civilisation is related to empire, slavery and global north-south inequality. As a Brighton-based photographer, I could explore this theme in the objects displayed in the Royal Pavilion. The gold and the gaudiness draw you in, casting a spell of forgetfulness.

This will be developed further in stage 2 of this project and hopefully into the future. I have not committed my photography to any particular genre, allowing me to express myself using different genres.
